8 GRANDMASTERS QUALIFY FOR THE CHESS OLYMPICS
If you haven't heard Chess.com and FIDE came together and created the Olympic Esports Series, hold on word just came in that we know the 8 GMs who just qualified for the finals 🏆
Here are the 8 GMs: Shant Sargsyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Oleksandr Bortnyk, Alexey Sarana, Bassem Amin, Maksim Chigaev, Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen, and Aleksandr Rakhmanov.
What I found to be crazy was the 17-year-old IM Emin Ohanyan was only one win away from moving on, imagine being 17 and competing with the big dogs that's insane 🐶. Unfortunately, he lost to Maksim Chigaev in the final round leading to all 8 winners being GMs.
The finals are set to take place from June 22nd - June 26th in Singapore but don't worry if you can't catch it I'll be on top of it.
DUTCH DEFENSE EXPLAINED
Imagine you're playing chess and your opponent makes their first move by advancing their king pawn two squares forward. You could respond with a boring move like pushing your own pawn forward or developing a knight, but where's the fun in that? Instead, you decide to play the Dutch Defense!
Now, the Dutch Defense is like the kooky, unconventional cousin of the opening world. It starts with the move pawn f5, boldly taking control of the e4 square and declaring, "I don't need your stinkin' pawns to control the center!" It's like showing up to a formal event wearing a Hawaiian shirt and flip-flops 🏖️
But don't be fooled by its laid-back appearance, the Dutch Defense is a powerful weapon in the right hands. By fianchettoing the bishop and building a solid pawn chain on the kingside, black can create a strong defensive position while waiting for the right moment to launch a counterattack.
Here is how the Dutch Defense could be played:
ps. your the Black pieces
Of course, like any unconventional strategy, the Dutch Defense has its drawbacks. It weakens Black's kingside and can make it difficult to castle safely. But hey, you didn't choose the Dutch Defense because you're a scaredy-cat, right? 🙀 You chose it because you're a bold, adventurous spirit who's not afraid to take risks and shake things up on the chessboard!
