Move over Netflix, there's a new binge-worthy addiction in town - chess! With over a billion games played on Chess.com last month, yes that is with a b.

The big question: why are everyone and their moms playing chess?

Well here are some theories:

• YouTube recommending chess to more people all at once

• Andrew Tate encouraged people to play chess

• The Magnus Carlsen x Hans Niemann scandal

• Chess content has increased dramatically the past few months

All of these are just theories so let's leave it to the almighty Chesster to come to the conclusion once and for all. drum roll please, da da da da da da, all the theories combined.

The most reasonable thing I have concluded was that all of these theories that I mentioned compounded onto one another creating a massive snowball effect. Now everywhere you look someone or something is playing chess.

THE GREEK GIFT

You know what they say, "when in doubt, use the Greek route! Today I have for you this amazing chess tactic called the Greek Gift 🎁

The Greek Gift is a chess tactic where a player sacrifices their bishop on h7 (or h2, depending on the player's perspective) to open up a devastating attack on the opponent's king. This tactic is named after the Greek myth of the Trojan horse, where the Greeks used a large wooden horse to sneak into the city of Troy and win the war.

The Greek Gift in Chess is like a delicious gyro - it's powerful, but only if done right. Careful planning and calculation are crucial to ensuring your sacrifice is sound and your attack is successful. Otherwise, you might end up with a soggy sandwich and your opponent turning the tables on you 👀
